NO Canaan wives

Proverbs 31:10

King James Version

10 Who can find a virtuous woman?

for her price is far above rubies.

It is unclear Sarai's (Sarah) ancestry.

She is the wife of Abraham.

But this much we know about Abraham's son, Isaac.

And the wife his father chose for him:

Genesis 24:1-4

King James Version

24 And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age:

and the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.

2 And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house,

that ruled over all that he had,

Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:

3 And I will make thee swear by the Lord,

the God of heaven,

and the God of the earth,

that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son

of the daughters of the Canaanites,

among whom I dwell:

4 But thou shalt go unto my country,

and to my kindred,

and take a wife unto my son Isaac.

The same goes for Isaac's son, Jacob.

His wife was not to be from the Canaanites:

Genesis 28:1-3

King James Version

28 And Isaac called Jacob,

and blessed him, and charged him,

and said unto him,

Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

2 Arise, go to Padanaram,

 to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father;

and take thee a wife from thence

of the daughers of Laban thy mother's brother.

3 And God Almighty bless thee,

and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee,

that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

GOD commanded the same thing, through Moses:

Deuteronomy 7:3

King James Version

3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them;

thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son,

nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

What is it about the Canaanites?

Why does GOD expressly forbid His people from marrying them?

To understand, we need to look into their origin.

And that's for the the next post.
